The tyranny of beauty
The tyranny of beauty investigates how mass media imposes narrow ideals of female beauty.
Billboards and posters flood our public spaces, shaping how women are seen and how they see themselves. The constant push to ‘perfect’ the body reduces them to passive objects, with celebrities used to reinforce the norm. To challenge this, I photographed everyday women as magazine covers and created images that contrast real women with the impossible ideals pushed by beauty culture.
Exhibited at the Rag Factory (London) and Shipley Underground Market, the work is also available as a printed booklet.
